BET AWARDS 2024: Highlights, Nominees & Winners

The 2024 BET Awards, known as “culture’s biggest night,” was a star-studded celebration of Black excellence in entertainment. Hosted for the third consecutive year by Oscar-nominated actress Taraji P. Henson, the event took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

Standout Performances and Tributes @BET Awards

The evening kicked off with an electrifying performance by Megan Thee Stallion, who set the stage on fire with her hits “BOA” and “Where Them Girls At.”

R&B icon Usher was honored with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by industry legends Babyface and L.A. Reid. A star-studded musical tribute featured a medley of Usher’s hits performed by artists like Childish Gambino, Keke Palmer, Coco Jones, Normani, and Latto.

In a powerful return to music, Will Smith took the stage to perform his new single “You Can Make It,” which featured a guest appearance by Gospel icon Kirk Franklin and the uplifting voices of the Sunday Service Choir.

The awards ceremony recognized excellence across various categories, with several notable winners:

  • Album of the Year: “Michael” by Killer Mike 
  • Best Female R&B/Pop Artist: SZA 
  • Best Male R&B/Pop Artist: Usher 
  • Best Actress: Regina King 
  • Sportswoman of the Year: Angel Reese 
  • Sportsman of the Year: Jalen Brunson
  • Best International Act: Tyla
  • Best New Artist: Tyla
  • Gospel/Inspirational: Tems

Rising Stars and Breakthrough Moments

The event also highlighted the achievements of up-and-coming artists, with Shaboozey, Tanner Adell, and Tyla shining on the BET Awards stage. Victoria Monét, in particular, had a standout night, earning her first-ever BET Award and delivering electrifying performances of “On My Mama” and “Alright.” 

The 2024 BET Awards was a testament to the incredible talent and diversity within the Black entertainment industry. From the star-studded performances to the prestigious award winners, the event celebrated the profound impact of Black artists and their contributions to culture.
